__________
Dear Senator Gardner,
I am a constituent from [city]. [I am writing because I have ]/ [on behalf of (my loved one) who has] ME/CFS. I am writing to ask you to co-sponsor Senate Resolution 508; a resolution supporting the goals of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome International Awareness Day. I am a member of MEAction Colorado, a volunteer group working for more recognition and funding of ME/CFS. I participated in the MillionsMissing rally in Denver on May 12.
You may be aware that Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME), commonly known as Chronic Fatigue syndrome (CFS) or ME/CFS, is a devastating multi-system disease that causes dysfunction of the neurological, immune, endocrine and energy metabolism systems.
ME has no known cause, no diagnostic tests, and no FDA approved treatments. It is progressive and extremely debilitating.
In Colorado, as many as 42,000 people are afflicted with ME based on figures from the NIH. That could be as many people as live in the city of Littleton. About 75% of ME patients are unable to work or go to school. About 25% are homebound or bedbound due to severe symptoms.
According to NIH figures, the economic burden from ME in Colorado is estimated to be between $286 and $404 million. The current NIH investment in ME research is $17 million, but by any measure it is a fraction of the investment in comparable diseases. For comparison, MS is funded at $115 million and is half as common and has a lower impact on quality of life.
I urge you to co-sponsor Senate Resolution 508 and encourage Senator Bennet to join you. We appreciate that you work together on issues that affect Coloradoans. This is an issue that affects thousands of the most vulnerable. The support of our senators would bring hope to the Colorado ME community.

Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
